1. CALCUTTA MERCY HOSPITAL Mark and Huldah Buntain built Mercy Hospital in 1977 as a beacon of hope for the desperately poor living in Calcutta. Today, Mercy Hospital serves more than 100,000 patients annually, 40% of these receiving free care. Over the years, and through commitment to advancements in healthcare for everyone, Mercy Hospital has grown into a 173-bed hospital with 30 specialty units and 19 satellite community clinics. Under the leadership of CEO Mr. Sanjay Prasad, Mercy Hospital continues to expand its charitable mission and set the standard for care in Calcutta and the surrounding regions. Join us in this exciting, monumental community health initiative that has impacted nearly one million lives. 1.1Mercy Clinics In a country of 1.2 billion, over 70% of India’s population lives in rural areas and have limited access to healthcare. Many people suffer because healthcare is either hard to come by, expensive, or inadequate based on needs of an area. Mercy Hospital operates 19 clinics in communities who would otherwise have little or no healthcare assistance. The healthcare that these patients receive comes free of charge. Help us continue to bring healthcare to regions where it is needed most. 2.BUNTAIN SCHOOL OF NURSING One of the most effective ways to break gender barriers and cycles of poverty is through education and job opportunity. Calcutta Mercy Ministries Canada supports the Buntain School of Nursing, which gives women a professional degree in a field with virtually unlimited global demand. Mercy Hospital provides the School of Nursing’s students with professional training and internships, ultimately providing women opportunities to select a specialty of their choice. The Hope House is a refuge for young girls from one of Calcutta’s most nefarious red-light neighborhoods. The beautiful campus is located away from the tough streets and is a place of healing and opportunity where families can voluntarily give their daughters a better chance to live an independent and empowered life. Currently in its construction phase, the Hope House will soon open its doors to up to 100 girls whose future would otherwise be determined within the ensnaring red-light community. CMM Canada is actively seeking partners and donors to help make this vision a reality.
