<p><b>Lincoln County Hospital</b> is a large district general hospital on the eastern edge of north-east <a href="/pages/w/115306945149642">Lincoln</a>. It is not in the most accessible part of the city, via road. It is the largest hospital, and offers the most comprehensive services, in <a href="/pages/w/113204542027320">Lincolnshire</a>.</p><h2>History</h2><p>The first buildings were built in 1776 , being designed by <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carr_" class="wikipedia">John Carr</a>. The current site was first built in 1878, being designed by Alexander Graham.</p><p>The <a href="/pages/w/105960912768676">Viking Way</a> passes east-west along the south edge of the hospital. The hospital is now the headquarters of the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust.</p><h2>Facilities</h2><p>It has 24 wards and 588 car spaces.</p><p>On top of the building is a radio transmitter, sometime soon planned to be the area's DAB mast for <a href="/pages/w/141347099219397">MuxCo Lincolnshire</a>.</p><p>The Lincoln Hospitals' Radio Service began on 28 January 1980, moving to Lincoln County Hospital in 1988, and has been known as Lindum Radio.</p><h3>Training</h3><p>The <a href="/pages/w/112496615433937">University of Nottingham Medical School</a> have approximately 330 nursing students and 30 midwifery students at its Lincoln Education Centre. The hospital has a less established contact with the <a href="/pages/w/105517282814216">University of Lincoln</a> (which offers a nursing course), and no in-house facilities.</p><h3>A & E</h3><p><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newark_Hospital" class="wikipedia">Newark Hospital</a> is closing its A&E facilities in April 2011, and just over half of patients that would have been sent to Newark by ambulance, will now go to Lincoln, via the dual-carriageway <a href="/pages/w/116422068405242">A46</a>. Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire already share the <a href="/pages/w/121584244552995">Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance</a>.</p>
