The Colorado Springs Dental Society (CSDS), a non-profit organization registered as a corporation with the State of Colorado, was founded in 1902 as a component society of the American Dental Association (ADA) (national) and of the Colorado Dental Association (CDA) (state). Its purpose is to promote the dental health of the public in the Pikes Peak region, to advance the art and the science of dentistry, to represent the interest of the members of the dental profession and the public which it serves, to foster an awareness of the obligations and the responsibilities of the dental profession to society, and to provide opportunities for an exchange of ideas among members.

The CSDS extends condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Joseph (Joe) Salvo who passed away on Friday, April 10, on a golf course in Arizona. A local memorial service in being planned for late May. Donations in his memory can be sent to the CSDS office; make your check payable to KIND but note SON in the reference line. Donations will benefit the CSDS' indigent adult dental clinic, Serving Our Neighbors (SON), in partnership with KIND. Initially, volunteer dentists will treat adult family members of KIND's children patients. SON's 501c3 application is still pending with the IRS. Therefore, KIND is accepting donations for SON. Sympathy cards can be sent to his wife, Beth, at 6020 Twin Rock Court, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. Dr. Salvo earned his general dentistry degree from the University of Maryland in 1962 and his oral surgery specialty in 1965. He served in the U. S. Army from 1965 - 1973. He joined the Colorado Springs Dental Society on September 13, 1973. He was in private practice at 3269 W. Carefree Circle prior to forming AMOS. Dr. Salvo was active in the CSDS and served on several committees and the board of directors and served as president from 1981-1982. He retired from the practice of dentistry in 2006 and remained an ADA retired life member. Joe will be missed by many of his colleagues and friends.

KIND CANCELS WINE TASTING FUNDRAISER. Kids in Need of Dentistry's Board of Directors decided to cancel the 8th annual wine tasting fundraiser scheduled for Oct. 22. Due to a scheduling conflict with a study club and low attendance, they chose to reschedule for a later date in spring 2016.

Dr. Mike Cimino plans to lead a dental team to San Ramon in North Central Nicaragua October 17 - 24. From the Corner of Love website, it looks like it will be a 30-40 person team of medical and dental providers who will hike to four impoverished villages to provide care; additionally, there will be one care day at the San Ramon site. Cost is $1,250.00 U. S. dollars, plus $50 Nicaragua money. Dentists, hygienists, and assistants are needed.
