Here’s how we do it: WE INVITE PEOPLE TO COME AND SEE JESUS. There is a great story in the Bible where Jesus meets an outcast woman at a well on a hot desert day. This meeting changed her life. It was like her identity had been hidden by the mistakes and failures in her life. When she met Jesus all that was lifted. She rediscovered who she was. She got so excited she ran back to her village and told everyone, “Come see a man who knew all about the things I did, who knows me inside and out.” (John 4:29) WE CHALLENGE PEOPLE TO COME AND FOLLOW JESUS. We challenge people to come along with Jesus and learn to trust and follow him. In that same story, several people from the village heard what the woman said and came to see for themselves. Jesus had the same impact on them. They even invited him to stay for a couple extra days so they could learn more from him. The Bible tells us in those few days, "A lot more people entrusted their lives to him when they heard what he had to say." (John 4:41) WE GO AND SERVE PEOPLE… AND WE INVITE THEM TO COME AND SEE JESUS TOO. Philippians 2:1-4 (MSG) says, "If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand." We’ve learned the best way to invite people to come and see Jesus is to do what these verses encourage. We go and serve. We share God’s love by lending a helping hand in a variety of ways around the city.
