The objective of Communities in Schools is to prevent kids from dropping out of school by giving them the tools they need to be successful. We bridge the gap between family and school.
The five Communities in Schools basics: 1. A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult; 2. A safe place to learn and grow; 3. A healthy start and a healthy future; 4. A marketable skill to use upon graduation; and 5. A chance to give back to peers and community. Communities in Schools - South Plains uses evidence-based programs and services that address the academic, non-academic, cognitive, and social and emotional factors that directly affect students' ability to persist and be successful not only in school, but throughout their lives. Founded in Lubbock in 1999 and chartered by the national Communities in Schools office in 2000, Communities in Schools - South Plains has increased the number of children served from approximately 100 on three campuses in 1999-2000 to over 2,100 on 54 campuses during the 2015-2016 school year.
