Description

Community Health Center of Lubbock, also known as CHCL, has been giving back to Lubbock and the surrounding communities since it first opened its doors in 1992 as a safety net provider for the under served population of nearly 90,000 without health insurance and no access to critical healthcare. CHCL was formed under the principle of a “hand up” rather than a “hand out”, and provides affordable high quality medical care, dental care, eye care, and mental health services to the general population. This includes migratory and seasonal agricultural workers, homeless individuals, and residents in public housing. In 2016 alone, CHCL provided services to 26,114 patients and served over 10% of the Lubbock population, making it the largest safety net provider in the area. Of the 10% of population served, 70% were below the national poverty level. For example, a family of four that lives on $24,300 per year, often working multiple jobs to provide for their families with no means to afford their necessary health care needs. Along with children and adult medical, dental, eye, and mental health services, CHCL also offers women’s health services, diabetic education, fitness classes, X-Ray, lab, and pharmacy services on a sliding fee scale. CHCL provides services to any community member and their families, and accepts most insurances including Medicare and Medicaid. CHCL has grown rapidly through the years from serving patients at a single clinic in 1993, to now having eight clinics located throughout Lubbock, and two mobile units that serve the counties of Lubbock, Crosby, Garza, Lynn, and Terry. Through the rising health needs of Lubbock and the surrounding communities, and the partnerships that have been formed with a singular goal of providing quality healthcare to those in need, CHCL has grown to what it is today.
