Community Services Agency (CSA) is a private nonprofit Community Action Agency. CSA Reno has initiated and developed numerous programs in human services, economic development, education and affordable housing.
Community Services Agency (CSA) is a private nonprofit Community Action Agency governed by a 15 member volunteer Board of Directors from various sectors of the Northern Nevada community. Since its inception in 1965, the Agency has initiated and developed numerous programs including: SUPPLEMENTAL INCOME: TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) - TANF provides eligible families with cash assistance. CSA provides assistance with application completion for this program. AFFORDABLE CHILD CARE:CSA can help you connect to local affordable child care pro- grams. These programs provide referrals to licensed providers and information on affordable child care programs. Assistance is also available for those wishing to become a licensed child care provider. EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: Limited resources are available for emergency situations. Approval is given on a case-by-case basis. VETERANS SERVICES: CSA offers a full menu of programs and services to eligible veterans including professional resumé writing, job application assistance, new skills training, education opportunities, and job related support. CSA also offers a subsidized work program for on-the-job training. Assistance for veterans working to make a successful transition to the civilian job market is available. Specially tailored workshops to support your success are also offered. YOUTH SERVICES: Jobs for America’s Graduates “JAG”—CSA provides a dropout prevention program for 11th and 12th graders. This program includes services that assist youth in staying in school, securing entry-level jobs and pursuing post-secondary education. This program is currently in operation at local high schools with additional locations under consideration. RESOURCES FOR YOUR HOME: Energy Assistance— Assistance with application completion for bill pay assistance to NV Energy. Energy Efficiency (Weatherization) - We can help you reduce your home or apartment energy costs. AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE: Health Care Insurance—Assistance in signing up for affordable health care insurance through Nevada Check-up, Medicaid, and in October 2013, the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. Health Care Services—Referrals to affordable local health care providers and services if you do not have or cannot obtain health insurance. AFFORDABLE FOOD AND NUTRITION: Food Pantries - CSA provides information about local food pantries locations and days of service. SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) - Assistance with application to this federal program (formerly Food Stamps) which provides monthly payments to your family to purchase food. WIC (Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children - This program provides additional food, nutrition education, and health care resources for pregnant women, mothers and their children up to age 5. We can assist you with applying. School Breakfast and Lunch— Assistance with applications and connections with your children’s schools to ensure they receive their free or low-cost meals during the school year. Senior Food Programs—Special programs are available to meet the nutritional needs of seniors. CSA can help you connect to meals programs in your community including programs that deliver meals to your home. Commodity Supplemental Food Program—This program provides nutritious foods to new mothers, children up to age 6 and seniors 60 years and older. Summer Lunch Program—This free program is available through the summer in select locations in your community. CSA provides a list of locations and the times lunch is served. The program serves children ages 2-18 years. EDUCATION: Head Start—CSA operates the Head Start program with classrooms in many different locations. It is a federally funded preschool program for children ages 3-5 that helps them get ready for school and engages families in exciting and important activities. Adult Education—CSA offers basic computer classes and provides referrals and assistance for accessing GED, ESL, skill specific certification programs, and higher education. EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE AND TRAINING CSA’s Workforce Development Program provides a wide range of services for those individuals desiring stable employment: Resume and cover letter development On-line job search and application assistance Computer Lab and classes Training and Supportive Services Workshops to help you get ready for work Skills and Career Assessments CSA currently has programs that target income eligible dislocated workers (those who have never received unemployment insurance benefits), adults seeking to become employed, and out of school youth ages 16-20 years. If our programs cannot meet your needs, we provide referrals to other employment assistance and training programs in your community. FEDERAL INCOME TAX: Tax Return Preparation—CSA offers assistance with the preparation of federal income tax returns to ensure that you take advantage of all of the tax credits for which you are eligible. Important tax credits include the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, Education tax credits, and several others available to low-income families
