We foster the leaders who spark the transformations that make Pittsburgh thrive.
Coro Pittsburgh is a comprehensive program for leadership succession and a diverse community of over 1500 alumni. Our mission is to advance ethical and effective leaders who share a commitment to civic engagement. We are building a pipeline of leaders to foster collaboration within and across the region’s business, government and non-profit sectors. We don’t create leaders; we bring out the leader in each person. We provide the tools they need to change the world around them. Six core values inform how we design leadership programs: Experiential Learning–Experience, feedback, application Building Relationships–Inclusive dialogue, collective action, lasting relationships Diversity–Learn from, work with, and respect people with different points of view Whole System Thinking–See the whole picture, understand interconnections Teamwork–Develop and utilize everyone’s talents so everyone has ownership Nurture Leadership–Awaken a sense of purpose and vision in others All participants who complete the Coro curriculum join the Alumni community, a network of individuals passionate about professional and community leadership who provide support to each other and work together to create positive change in the region. Our vision is an inclusive democracy in which people of various backgrounds and sectors work together constructively to improve the quality of life for all. Coro was founded in San Francisco in 1942 to conduct research and provide experience-based education in effective governance. A Fellowship in Public Affairs was created in 1947, which quickly developed a national reputation for excellence in experiential learning. Other centers were established in Los Angeles1957, St. Louis1972, Kansas City1975, New York1980, and Pittsburgh1999. Operating independently, the centers collaborate in recruiting, developing curriculum and training.
