A LITTLE TASTE OF ITALY Mocha Italia is the name Sergio and Bruno Costa gave to their own special blend of coffee beans 40 years ago. It's a unique blend as it manages to combine the sweetness, bitterness and body needed to make the perfect cup of coffee. As for the blend itself, that's a closely guarded secret, but you can enjoy a cup of its distinctive flavour and a warm Italian welcome at any of our Costa coffee shops. WORTH WAITING FOR There are some things in life that should never be rushed, coffee being one of them. That's why we only ever slow-roast our coffee beans - to bring out a fuller flavour and stronger aroma. It's a traditional process that takes a little longer, but it's well worth the wait. COSTA HOUSE RULES This page is designed as a space to unite coffee lovers and encourage Costa fans to leave comments, photos and pictures of all things coffee related. We do have a few house rules. A DROP OF HISTORY IN EVERY CUP Costa coffee was first poured on our shores in 1971 at 9 Newport Street, London, by Sergio and Bruno Costa. Today, just a few metres away from where they first set up, the Costa Roastery produces the same unique Mocha Italia blend that the Costa brothers worked so hard to create. THE PERFECT COMBINATION When you walk into a Costa store you'll notice it's different to other coffee shops. First of all, there's the warm and welcoming atmosphere. Then the great range of authentic coffee drinks. Next the Ferrari of coffee machines. And finally, the most passionate and well trained baristas around. It's this unique combination that makes us stand out from the others, and we're incredibly proud of it. THE MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENT IN A CUP OF COFFEE Hand-making a cup of coffee is an art. It takes time and skill to perfect. That's why every single barista, in every single Costa store is professionally trained in the art of coffee by our experts. It's a little thing, but it makes a big difference, because it means you'll get a perfect cup of Costa coffee every time. OUR EXPERTISE To the untrained eye, a coffee bean is a coffee bean is a coffee bean. Well, not if you work at Costa. We have people who devote their entire working lives to sourcing, checking and blending our beans. At our Roastery, for instance, Gennaro (he's our chief taster) and his team spend hours every day examining, cupping and charting the exact acidity, body, sweetness, bitterness and aroma profiles of our Mocha Italia blend. It's like an obsession. If any coffee doesn't make the grade, it doesn't make it to a Costa store, simple as that.
