Today's feature from the Teapot Show is New Jersey artist Eric Rempe. Eric grew up in Pennsylvania and earned a BFA in ceramics at Penn State University, then received his MFA from San Diego State University. Being colorblind, color can be a struggle for him. He loves form and using just one glaze allows him to focus on highlighting the form and not getting distracted by his issues with color relationships. Form helps him see color from a very unique perspective, and he says he would never give up his way of seeing the world.
Great to see our past artist-in-residence Branan Mercer continuing to create some beautiful work, and he's getting some well deserved recognition! Read his interview here: http://thepotterscast.com/211
Today's teapot spotlight is Nick Devries from Minnesota. These are Nick's two pieces featured in our Annual Teapot Show. Nick often works in a reductive fashion, throwing heavier forms, altering them, and then carving and shaving the pieces away to reveal the final forms. He brings all of these elements together with layered satin glazes that unify and accent these textures, lines, and marks.
