Advanced training in environmental research and technologies to grad students and postdoctoral fellows at Trent University, Queens University and UofT
The CREATE Enviro program provides advanced training in state-of-the-art environmental research and technologies to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows Training in this program will allow students to tackle current issues in environmental health, with a focus on developing and applying novel methods for environmental monitoring and assessment. Technologies and training available to students include geomatics and remote sensing applications; genetics and genomics analysis; population survey and viability assessment; and environmental modeling and forecasting. The goal of the training program is to make students ready for employment upon graduation. This will be accomplished through training during research and internships with industrial or government partners, as well as training in professional skills and opportunities to showcase research and network with prospective employers. These skills are not typically integrated in graduate programs but are necessary for success in the growing environmental services field. The CREATE Enviro program was made possible through funding from the $1.65-million Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada. The program, which began in 2015, is offered by leading experts in environmental research at Trent University (Peterborough, Ontario), Queens University (Kingston, Ontario) and the University of Toronto.
