International Student Services (ISS) provides support services for international degree-seeking students, ALI students, faculty members, and scholars.

Description

As a unit of Center for International Education (CIE), International Student Services (ISS) provides a range of support services including immigration advising for the international degree-seeking students, students enrolled in the American Language Institute (ALI), international faculty members, and visiting international scholars at CSULB. International Student Advisors at ISS provide advising services for international students who are matriculated in Bachelor’s, Master’s, and certificate programs at CSULB. ISS serves as the liaison between the CSULB F-1 student population and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) by advising students on the federal regulations that govern their activities in the US. ISS provides orientations as well as group and individual advising to ensure that students are aware of the rules necessary to maintain their visa status and that they take advantage of available benefits. ISS also issues the required immigration documentation and performing continual DHS reporting for all international students. In addition to immigration support, ISS coordinates student life programming and activities that help international students adjust to U.S. academic, cultural, and social environments. ISS also offers academic advising services for international degree-seeking first-time freshmen through group and individual advising sessions. ISS provides advising services for international students enrolled at the American Language Institute. Support for the ALI students includes immigration advising and reporting, along with additional services such as on- and off-campus housing and homestay placement assistance, and the coordination of a robust activities calendar. ISS facilitates the H1B visa application process for tenure/tenure track faculty members that are hired by the university. Visiting Scholar Visa Services is provided upon request of academic departments. ISS issues the necessary immigration eligibility documents documents to allow prospective visiting scholars to apply for a J-1 visa.
