Description
The aim of the Basil D’Oliveira Foundation is to give young sports persons equal opportunity to sport via an annual exchange with South Africa. The goals of the foundation are to provide under-privileged youngsters the opportunity to access international sporting opportunity not otherwise available and to hone their skills to a level which may assist in providing future employment; and to experience and understand both the diversity and similarity of problems which arise from other cultures. To get our fundraising going, we are holding a photographic competition and the winning entry will be used as inspiration by the artist, a local Worcester lad who went to school with one of Basil’s sons, to sculpture this bronze work of art. You can see some of his previous work at www.statues.co.uk or www.bronzecasting.org.uk To raise funds to enable us to carry out these tasks we will be running several projects. The first is to raise funds to erect a statue in memory of Basil.
