Community and Education team connecting through dance with people everywhere.
Alongside our Main Season programme, we deliver a comprehensive Community and Education programme, Dancenorth Connects 2014. The Dancenorth Education Programme includes a focus on those maligned and alienated from mainstream education. The Dancenorth Education Programme is devised by Artistic Director, Raewyn Hill and coordinated and delivered by our Community and Education Team, Jeremy Poi and Tracey Poi. Over the past three years Dancenorth has cultivated unique community partnerships in Townsville, some of which are now also included as part of the regional and national tours.

As a major champion of the arts in regional North Queensland Dancenorth balances a dynamic regional presence with a commitment to creating compelling contemporary dance that tours the globe. Led by Artistic Director Kyle Page the Company’s program is designed to support a broad range of artistic practices and diversify performances. Concurrently, the Company advances progressive two-way strategies encompassing reciprocal residencies and community & education programs, in parallel with support for artists & expanded choreographic opportunities. This is at the heart of Dancenorth’s integrated & engaged program which anchors connection to place. Based on significant scientific developments over the last 15 years Artistic Director Kyle Page has established a daily practice for the company dancers, which incorporates several mind / body techniques designed to develop the cognitive processes associated with creativity. Kyle seeks to involve the dancers in a much more thinking capacity within the creation of new work whilst simultaneously nurturing technical virtuosity. He is currently working with mentor Dr. Scott de la Hunta, exploring the dance / science nexus.
