Thought i might fill you guys in more about me Hi there my name is Mikayla Bouma and I am 19, and i have been working with or around children for about 5 years, and have experience with all ages! I have moved around a lot in the last ten years but I originally lived in Brisbane. We moved here when my dad joined the NT Police Force, and since then have lived in Darwin multiple times, Katherine twice, and Kalkarinji once. Whilst living in Kalkarinji we were homeschooled, so I have definately seen different perspectives. My mother is now a Paramedic for St. John Ambulance, and i think thats where my future dream may stem from. I started my work with children at Palmerston Aquatic Centre when i worked as a lifeguard, and from then on i knew i was very maternal, and destined to be an educator. From there i moved to Durack afterschool care, and was very happy with my position, work mates, and little ferals My family then uprooted to katherine where i gained my first time experience in long day care starting with preschool aged children, and gradually working with the babies. I ended up dropping out of school as i was really unhappy, working full time for a bit and then i moved to darwin on my own at the ripe age of 17 and a half! I transferred from Little Geckos in Katherine to Kids Force in Winellie and from there i moved around all the Mission Australia Early Learning Centres gaining more experience, and helping out all of the centres . My most challenging role was being the assistant group leader of Wulagi Early Learning's Toddler Room as the group leader had a medical condition and was regularly away. This role had massive shoes to fill, but as I always have, I stepped up to the plate, and did what needed to be done, to give those kids the best experience. During this time I also ran 'Darwin Babysitting' and was busy almost every weekend! I ended up leaving mission australia after just over one amazingly fabulous year, that sadly ended terribly. In June of 2013 I decided I wanted more out of my life, and wanted to do more for myself, so i decided to move back home to my parents house in Katherine, go back to school, then go to uni to study nursing and either child nursing or midwifery. After a year and a half of living in Katherine, my family have been posted back to Darwin, which gives me great pleasure in announcing that Darwin Babysitting will be back in business! I will be moving to Darwin around September-October and will be available for babysitting a week after moving! I will advise of the dates i will be returning at a later date. I really cant explain the connection I have with children, it is just instinct, and I feel as happy, if not happier, than they are. There are some children that I form an nondetachable bond with straight away, and there are those that slowly form a friendship with me, but as I have learnt with my experience every child is different. Since I have started working with children, I have always worked FOR children, not for a corporation, not for a business, and not for the money. I do what I do because I love it. I offer competitive rates as follows: $15 per hour for the first two children $2 per hour for each additional child ***Please note different rates apply for combined family bookings, full day bookings, overnight bookings, and big occasions (e.x. New Years Eve, Family Members Birthday, ect.) & I have a minimum fee of $60 for anything under 4 hours of babysitting, or 4 minimum booking of 4 hours.*** I have plenty of references upon request, and am available for meet and greets!
