DAS DETROIT-PROJEKT ist ein einjähriges internationales Stadtprojekt und Kunstfestival in Bochum. Es stellt Fragen und sucht Antworten zur Zukunft der Stadt, der Arbeit und der Kunst und verbindet vier europäische Opel-Städte.

Ein Projekt von Schauspielhaus Bochum und Urbane Künste Ruhr, gefördert durch die Kulturstiftung des Bundes. Nicht nur in Bochum, sondern auch in Zaragoza (Spanien), in Ellesmere Port/Liverpool (England) und Gliwice (Polen) fürchten die Menschen, ihre Arbeit zu verlieren. Auch diese Städte und Länder suchen ihren Weg ins 21. Jahrhundert. Gemeinsam mit ihnen entwickeln wir Möglichkeiten und Chancen für die Zukunft. In Detroit wird nicht nur über die Zukunft des Opel-Werkes entschieden, dort haben die Menschen bereits erlitten, was wir nicht erleben wollen: Sie mussten erfahren, wie die Auto- und Stahlindustrie ihre Fabriken schloss, abwanderte und eine Ruinenlandschaft hinterließ. Doch Bochum ist nicht Detroit: Bochum erfindet sich neu! In Bochum geht durch die angekündigte Schließung des Opel-Werkes zum zweiten Mal in der Stadt eine Ära zu Ende. Die erste Phase war geprägt durch den Bergbau, die zweite Phase durch den einstmals größten Arbeitgeber GM/Opel. Doch was kommt dann? Woher kommen inspirierende Innovationen und mutige Konzepte für die Zukunft? Wie werden wir Arbeit, Kultur, Wirtschaft, Bildung und Forschung in Zukunft organisieren? Wie können wir unsere Stadt für die Zukunft neu aufstellen? Vom 10. bis 12. Oktober 2013 eröffnen wir DAS DETROIT-PROJEKT zusammen mit Gästen aus den europäischen Opel-Städten Zaragoza, Ellesmere Port und Gliwice sowie aus Detroit. Wir laden ein zu einem internationalen Bankett, einem Symposium und zu einem Live-Art-Fest in der Bochumer Innenstadt, zu Konzerten und Partys und zu einem Nightwalk durch Bochum-Ehrenfeld. ------ DAS DETROIT-PROJEKT is a year-long international city project and art festival in Bochum. Connecting four European Opel cities, DAS DETROIT-PROJEKT asks questions about the future of urban living, working, and art. Workers not only in Bochum but also in Zaragoza (Spain), Ellesmere Port/Liverpool (England), and Gliwice (Poland) fear to lose their jobs. These cities and countries are also searching for their way into the 21st century. Together we develop possibilities and chances for the future. Detroit is not only the city where the future of the Opel factory is decided. The people of Detroit have already faced what we do not want to experience: the closing of the automotive and steel industry, moving away and leaving behind a landscape of ruins. But Bochum is not Detroit: Bochum reinvents itself! The announced closing of the Opel factories in Bochum marks a second end of an era in the city. The first phase was characterized by the mining industry, the second by the formerly biggest employer GM/Opel. But what comes after that? Where do inspiring innovations and courageous concepts for the future come from? How are we going to organize labor, culture, the economy, education, and research in the future? How can we set up our city anew for the future? From October 10 to 12, 2013, we inaugurate DAS DETROIT-PROJEKT together with guests from the European Opel cities Zaragoza, Ellesmere Port, and Gliwice as well as from Detroit. We invite you to an international Banqet, a symposium, and to a live art celebration in the city center of Bochum, to concerts, parties, and a nightwalk through Bochum-Ehrenfeld.
