DaVinci Camp is a 4 week summer program for rising 6th – 9th graders that integrates social and academic components from the arts and applied sciences.

Description

The camp was created to address the question “How do we create more Latino/ Hispanic PhDs in Science and Engineering?” Our answer is to start training students for that outcome earlier. DVC was founded in 1993 by Douglas Varela to address issues of underrepresented student retention in engineering and applied science at universities across the United States. As a graduate of UC Berkeley, MIT, and Caltech, Varela possesses unique insight into the characteristics and performance standards required of students for admission to and continued high performance at top tier technical institutions. During his 20 years of consulting to industry, academia, and non-profit organizations, Varela designed, implemented and delivered summer/winter programs for incoming freshman and continuing undergraduates in engineering fields. Extensive experience with implementing engineering boot camps, teacher and student assessments, allowed DVC to provide assistance to academia in the student selection process.
