Welcome to the Defence School of Photography Facebook page. Over the coming months watch this space for information relating to our Centenary Celebrations.
In the summer of 1915 the first military technical training school was established at Farnborough and was known as the School of Photography (SOP). After WW1, the SOP carried out business as usual, incorporating the multitude of technical changes into its training, until the outbreak of the Second World War when it became necessary to open a second school at Blackpool. After WW2 the School had to move from Farnborough to Farnham and then in 1948 on to Wellsbourne-Mountford, near Stratford on Avon where it remained until October 1963. It then moved to temporary accommodation at RAF Cosford. A new purpose built design was constructed and opened on 3rd December 1965. In 1972 the SOP became the training centre for all HM Forces photographers and was renamed the Joint School of Photography (JSOP). On 6th June 2004 the JSOP came under the governance of the Defence Intelligence and Security Centre (DISC) and was once again renamed to the Defence School of Photography (DSOP). http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafcosford/aboutus/dsop.cfm
