Dental Herb Company was founded by Dr. Bernard Schechter, DDS, a graduate of New York University College of Dentistry and former faculty member of the Boston University School of Graduate Dentistry. Dr. Schechter applied his advanced training in therapeutic herbology and microbiology to research natural treatments to help his patients with periodontal disease and halitosis. Involved in holistic health education since 1969, Dr. Schechter spent two decades testing various formulas for his Tooth and Gums Tonic® and later developed an entire Herbal Protocol for Healthy Teeth and Gums. The Truly Natural® alcohol-free oral hygiene system was designed for use as an alternative to periodontal surgery or chemical treatments. In 1996, with his formulations perfected, Dr. Schechter founded the Dental Herb Company. When dentists saw immediate results with the Tonic and Under the Gums Irrigant®, Dr Schechter developed an all natural toothpaste and breath spray using the same organic botanicals and pure essential oils. For 15 years, Dr. Schechter sold his products primarily through dental offices with the belief that oral care should always be practiced under the guidance of a dentist. Wanting to retire in 2010, Dr. Schechter approached David and Sarah Hill, owners of P.J. Noyes Company, about purchasing the Dental Herb Company. P.J. Noyes Company had been the manufacturer of Dental Herb Company products since 1997, making them an ideal choice to further the success of the company. Confident that his high standards of formulation and quality would continue under David and Sarah's direction, Dr. Schechter entered retirement in 2011 and continues to consult and remain involved with the company. "We have loved these products since we first made them, so when Dr. Schechter asked us about taking over the business, we were thrilled," says David Hill. Presently, Dental Herb Company is family-owned and operates in a small town in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Dental Herb Company products are manufactured in the same state-of-the-art, FDA registered facility as they always have been. From its inception, Dental Herb Company has believed that its products should be used under the supervision of oral health care professionals. Accordingly, Dental Herb Company products are available through thousands of dentists and health professionals nationwide, and are not sold in retail chains.
