Tuesday on the Farm: at 10:30; we will celebrate DGS and all we have accomplished in our Green Strides tour. We will get a visit from the US Dept of Education, the CO Dept of Education and the DPS Board, but what we really need is you--our parents and community, please join us.
This Tuesday (Sept 16th) DGS will be visited by a team from the US Dept of Education. US Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan may even be among the distinguished guests. We will host several elected officials along with members of the EPA, and CO Department of Education too. All of these distinguished guests are coming to see all of the great stuff DGS has been doing when it comes to Sustainability. Parents, family and Community members are most welcome. We will start at 10:30 am in the farm. Help spread the word. Go Dragons.

DGS Dragons ROAR! Did you know that our middle school cross country team will be making its debut tomorrow (Friday September 12) at the Slavens Middle School XC Invitational? Head to Harvard Gulch Park (near the intersection of South Logan Street and East Iliff) at 3pm if you'd like to help cheer them on!

Two don't miss events this week: DGS PTA MEETING Wednesday (9/3) at 4:00 in the Cottage. This is a great chance to meet other parents and have your voice heard. Childcare will be provided for free. Then fun for the whole family: Film on the Farm this Friday night at 7:00. We will be showing Shrek. Come early to set up your picnic and bring the whole fam (and a few bucks for popcorn).

PARENT & COMMUNITY FORUM: LEAD PARTNER HIRING COMMITTEE When: Monday, March 2nd Time: 5:00 PM Where: Middle School Cottage What: Help us make the right choice for the future of DGS! We are excited to announce that we will be inviting all Denver Green School parents and community members to meet with several of the top candidates from our external search to fill the remaining lead partner position at DGS. The Parent & Community Forum will take place on Monday, March 2nd. We will start at 5:00 PM in the DGS Middle School Cottage to confirm protocols. Candidates will have their presentations at 5:30 PM and 6:15 PM. We will end with a debrief session before making recommendations of candidates to the superintendent.
Talent show postponed: Due to the snow day today, we will have to postpone the talent show until Friday March 13th. Ski club is going skiing next week and we can't reschedule that date. So, the new dates will be the following: dress rehearsal will be Thursday March 12th 8:30-10:00 and then the 4th annualTalent Show will be on Friday March 13th at 9:00 in the cafeteria. DINNER NIGHT TONIGHT Where: Modmarket 1000 S Colorado Blvd Time: 5 PM - 8 PM Community is important to all of us here at DGS. Please join us for another DGS Family Dinner Night and connect with other DGS families. Preparations are in full swing for our biggest fundraiser of the year, The Denver Green School 3rd Annual Auction! The spring 2015 annual DGS auction will be held at the City of Englewood Civic Center on Friday, May 15th from 6-10pm. The address is 1000 Englewood Parkway Englewood, CO 80110. The location of our auction this year is conveniently located on all avenues of transportation such as bus routes and RTD light rail. Please save the date and make plans accordingly as tickets will go on sale April 6th, 2015. Single tickets are $30 and couples tickets are $50. Who has great First Day of School traditions to share? We're looking forward to seeing everybody tomorrow! First Day of School: 1st through 8th grade will start on Thursday August 20th starting at 8:00 a.m. ECE and Kindergarten will attend school for a ½ day on either August 20th or 21st (check start date information from registration). Free breakfast for every student begins at 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop off students before 7:30 am as there is no supervision.
Dragon families, despite the luminous skies, we are still planning on our watermelon social tonight, 4:30-6:00. If it's raining or there's a storm, we will move it inside (to the cafe). And then we can go visit teachers in classrooms. See you soon.

Andrew's Community Garden at Denver Green School and Sprout City Farms will be hosting a free composting class and community work day in the garden this Saturday from 10am-1pm. Please join us! All the recent rain has the garden looking glorious, and we have some harvesting, weeding, and general tending to our classroom garden plots to help out with. Bring the kids! Bring your neighbors! The more the merrier.
