Beyond the Protests – Analyzing Police and Community Interactions and How We Can Take Steps to Improve Outcomes Tuesday, January 20, 2015 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM Kendrick Hall 100 - Classroom Event Type Events and Lectures Contact Campino, Jocelyn Leigh 422-6783 Department School of Law As we recognize the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., join us for a panel discussion regarding the current controversies surrounding the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner and the lack of indictments against police officers involved in those incidents. Speakers will discuss what federal, state and local laws govern these interactions; the state of police strategies and training to reduce or avoid fatal outcomes; how the civil rights complaint processes work; how DAs analyze and investigate these interactions from a criminal perspective; immunities from prosecution for officers and municipalities; and how we can work to avoid what occurred in Ferguson and Staten Island. We will discuss what role all of us have to educate others, promote oversight, and advocate for needed solutions in these areas. Panelists: - R. King Hall Outreach Program (KHOP) Winter Session. KHOP Winter Session is a no-cost workshop based program designed to equip high potential juniors and seniors from underrepresented communities with the skills necessary to excel in the law school admissions process. This year, KHOP Winter Session will be held over four Saturdays on March 7, March 14, March 28, and April 4. Re: Free Resume Review & Mock Interview Workshops at the Bar Association of San Francisco for College & Law Students For the month of February, the Bar Association of San Francisco (BASF) and the Association of Legal Administrators - Golden Gate Chapter (ALA) will be hosting free resume review and mock interview workshops for college and law students. All workshops will take place at the Bar Association of San Francisco, 301 Battery Street, 3rd Floor, San Francisco, CA 94111. We will be hosting three separate workshops. Tuesday, February 3, 2015, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2015, 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM Thursday, February 18, 2011, 5:30 PM– 7:30 PM During the 90 minute workshops students will be paired with ALA members who will review and critique the students’ resumes. Then students will engage in a mock interview where they will receive feedback from a volunteer interviewer and observer. The program will conclude with a brief networking reception. Space is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.
