Magers & Quinn Booksellers
3038 Hennepin Ave Minneapolis , MN 55408 null

Magers and Quinn is an independently owned new and used bookseller located in the heart of the popular Uptown neighborhood in Minneapolis, near the lakes for which the city is famous. Our main location in Uptown has been in operation since 1994, when Denny Magers moved his smaller bookstore, All Books, from its location near the University of Minnesota to Hennepin Avenue and gave the store its current name. From rather humble beginnings (some of us can still remember when many of our books were laid out on tables instead of bookshelves) the store has steadily grown. It is now one of the largest independent bookstores in the midwest. Our collection covers all subjects and features many unusual and hard-to-find editions, as well as thousands of current releases. Titles currently in print, whether new or used, are substantially discounted. Be sure to browse through our rare and collectible section as well for a look at some of the beautiful, one-of-a-kind editions we have collected over time. A Little History On a warm day in August 1994, during the Uptown Art Fair, Magers & Quinn opened for business at 3038 Hennepin Avenue South. The store first occupied the front section of the building, in a space previously occupied by a thrift store. The first opening nights were exciting, as many people filled the space shopping for good art books. Not long afterward, work was begun to expand the retail space into the back portion of the building, called the Bryant Building, which was built in 1922 and originally housed a Chevrolet dealership. Some years earlier, Denny was operating his import/export business spending much time in Europe. He had always had a love of books and had often thought about combining books and business. An opportunity came along when he was offered a trailer load of used books. After buying them, he had to decide what to do with them and ended up selling most to contacts he had made in the book business in Europe. After adding a warehouse and more buying and exporting, another opportunity presented itself a few years later when a small used bookstore on Oak Street near the University of Minnesota was going out of business. Denny bought the inventory and reopened the store, adding fresh stock. In a short time, needing more space, the business expanded to our present location. With more and more purchases and an ever expanding inventory, our business occupies the entire 3 floors of our building. We have a varied and interesting selection on a wide range of subjects, with our sources ranging from individuals to many different publishers. We have all types of books from the latest bestseller to collectible and rare books and everything in between.
