Description

As a practicing family and general practice physician in the Gatlinburg area for the last 7 years, I have thoroughly enjoyed working also with urgent and emergent care dynamics that mostly, though not completely, involve the bumps and falls many tourists in our area succumb to while hiking our beautiful Smokeys. Most recently, I have also taken on a project near and dear to my wife's heart, addiction management and treatment. My wife, as a social worker with emphasis in addiction treatment and counseling, created a treatment program including individual and group therapy for Sevier county and our surrounding areas and wanted to include the use of a medication-assisted detox and treatment plan. Rachel needed me and Dr. Robert Maughon, our boss, to agree to the idea and we did. This leads us to my most recent venture, breaking out from practicing solely at First Med Family Practice in Gatinburg, though not severing ties with Dr. Maughon, and continuing to practice general and family medicine, in addition to addiction medicine, at my new location at Doc Benson's Medical, a joint-venture opportunity with my wife, Rachel, and her business, First Med Suboxone Center. It's the best of both worlds; I get to continue the family and general medicine in which I love to serve and help others. I'm also afforded the luxury of helping my wife continue her dream; treating opiate addicts in a compassionate, caring, and therapeutic way.
