The Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Mecklenburg was founded in November 2014 by the Hearts Beat As One Foundation in partnership with Smart Start of Mecklenburg. The Imagination Library program has been implemented across the globe with infrastructure and support made possible by the Dolly Parton Imagination Library headquarters in Pigeon Forge, TN. Dolly Parton Imagination Library: In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort to benefit the children of her home county in east Tennessee. Dolly wanted to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by giving each child one free, age appropriate book per month from birth to age 5. The program has seen phenomenal success and has grown to over 50,000,000 free books delivered throughout 4 countries

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of Mecklenburg Current Enrollment Eligibility: New born children (born after January 1, 2015) that live in zip codes 28205,28206, or 28205. The first three zip codes were selected as the the first to participate in the Mecklenburg County program due to the diverse demographic mix and high rate of children considered to be at risk. Registration for the Imagination Library in Mecklenburg County is offered when a child is born at Carolinas Medical Center or Novant Health hospitals.
