Specializing in women's medicine, hormonal imbalances, and infertility.
Dr. Jillian Smithers is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and Primary Care Physician in the state of Arizona. She graduated with her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine. Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada, Dr. Smithers received her Bachelor of Science with a double major in Psychology, with a concentration in Neuroscience, and Biology in 2012 and started medical school that same year. Dr. Smithers’ inspiration for pursuing a career in the medical field came after she cared for her father throughout his battle with stage 4 cancer. At the time of his diagnosis, he was given 6 weeks to live, but with integrative cancer treatments he enjoyed another 2.5 years of life. After he passed away when Dr. Smithers was 13, she was introduced to naturopathic medicine through her own chronic health conditions and decided to apply to the four-year medical program at SCNM and move across the continent to Arizona. She has an extensive background in research, which she applies to her treatments and approach to health and healing. She uses an individualized approach with each patient, including routine and specialty lab testing, such as Food Allergy Panels, adrenal function tests, micronutrient and neurotransmitter testing. Her unique approach allows Dr. Smithers to determine the cause of her patient’s disease process and address the underlying imbalance in a way that is both effective and individualized for each patient. With this approach, she ensures that her patients are treated as a whole person and not just a list of symptoms. She specializes in women’s medicine, hormonal imbalances, and infertility in addition to her other interests including anti-aging, gastrointestinal disorders, skin conditions, metabolic disorders, and other acute and chronic illnesses and injuries. She prefers to use IV (intravenous) nutrient therapy, IM (intramuscular) nutrient injections, botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, acupuncture, and bio-identical hormone replacement (bHRT) to treat her patients. She offers her patients different treatment options so that they can become more involved with their health. In addition to her formal training at SCNM, she has received advanced training in natural fertility treatments and medical aesthetics procedures, including micro-needling and Platelet Rich Plasma Facial Rejuvenation.
