Dr. Joseph Franklin is a plastic surgeon with over seven years plastic surgery experience. He joined Healing Waters in 2013 as the new medical director and lead plastic surgeon for our Durham, NC location. Dr. Franklin is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons indicating the highest level of professional conduct. Dr. Franklin’s practice encompasses a broad range of plastic surgical procedures, with a focus on breast surgery for both cosmetic and reconstructive purposes. Dr. Franklin completed his plastic surgery residency at The Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Tennessee, Memphis and his general surgery residency at Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital) in Greenville, NC. He has been the recipient of many honors and awards during his years of medical service, receiving the Minges Resident Research Award for outstanding clinical research and the Outstanding Clinical Instructor Award from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. For two consecutive years he was the recipient of the Service Excellence Award from Vidant Hospital and ECU. He currently serves as a clinical instructor at the Brody School of Medicine and from 2007-2010 he served as the Medical Director for University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina Cleft Lip—Craniofacial Clinic in Greenville, NC. Dr. Franklin is highly active in charitable work for both the arts and sciences and volunteers with many organizations benefiting children, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Children’s Miracle Network.
