Dr. Whitfield is an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon practicing in Austin, TX. He completed six years of surgical training at Indiana University Medical Center and remained at the Indiana University Medical Center to complete his Plastic Surgery Residency. At the completion of his Plastic Surgery Residency he chose to gain additional training in Microsurgery by completing a one year Microsurgery Fellowship in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Whitfield practiced in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for 7 years prior to joining The Breast and Body Center of Austin in 2012. Dr. Whitfield specializes in cutting edge techniques for autologous breast reconstruction including: Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) other microsurgical free flaps. He also performs single stage silicone breast implant reconstruction, two stage breast reconstruction, and fat grafting with and without BRAVA. Dr. Whitfield also specializes in reconstruction after sarcoma and other oncologic surgeries. In addition to reconstructive surgeries, his interests within plastic surgery include cosmetic surgery procedures such as breast augmentation, breast lifts, liposuction, tummy tucks, body contouring, fat transfer, and facelifts. Dr. Whitfield is an Active Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and the American Medical Association. He is the previous president of the Austin Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. He has been voted one of Best Austin Doctors by Austin Monthly Magazine in 2013 and 2014.
