Welcome to the official page of the proposed Dragonheart Primary School -a School with a Difference. The Manchester Chinese Centre are proposing to open a new primary school in the Ardwick/Longsight/West Gordon area of Manchester under the Government’s free school scheme. The school will have the following features. - An ethos of hard work, discipline and responsibility which will develop children’s self-confidence and self-esteem. - A commitment to fostering the naturally inquisitive, loving and learning nature of all children. - A strong emphasis on the highest possible academic achievement for each child. - Use of the International Primary Curriculum. This curriculum is used in over 1000 schools in England. A 21st Century curriculum for children of the 21st Century. - Extra national curriculum literacy and numeracy teaching for all children. - Mandarin taught as a second language. From September 2014 a second language must be taught in all primary schools. - Support for the learning of Mandarin through a study of aspects of Chinese culture. - Additional classes in sports, martial art, music and arts to be provided during the extended day. - Close affiliations with the wider community. - Extended school days to help parents, carers and children. - School facilities available for community use in the evening and at weekends. - The practice of abacus maths which improves children’s numeracy, memory, co-ordination, concentration and focus. - Personalised support designed to enable the academic and social development of each child. - An extended school day 8am - 5pm. To provide extra time for learning, sessions for gifted and talented children, parents, carers and children learning together and special interest classes.
