General Info

Like many Northern clubs, Dukinfield was originally based on the many coal mines found in town and played such notables as Wakefield trinity, Halifax, Oldham etc and joined the Rugby Union in 1880. In the 1920's Dukinfield fielded the Scottish international captain Dr.Henry, in the team for some years, and during this period became the pre-eminent team of the area. Reforming after the war, Dukinfield failed to regain their past form and went into decline in the late 1960's being reduced to one team. The club was dealt a severe blow early in 1969 when vandals burnt down the clubhouse on Blocksages, destroying all the clubs records and leaving it homeless. In 1969 the club bought the old Co-op on Birch Lane and converted it into its headquarters. Struggling to just hold its head above water. The club struggled through the seventies, but real progress only began in 1982. Since that time the club has progressed to run three senior teams and began to develop a strong junior section. Last season was one to celebrate with the first team winning the South Lancs & Cheshire division 2 title and being promoted into North Lancs. & Cheshire 1. This season once again finds the club fielding three senior sides and with an ever expanding youth section, thanks to the hard work of all the new junior coaching staff things are looking bright for the future of the club.

Gents, quick update on a couple of things:- Firstly results are excellent,a lot down to you guys hitting training in numbers and helping Gaz and myself out regarding your availability early in the week so teams can be organised-THANKS ALL. We are going to pull the plug on the Strength and Conditioning at Astley if we don’t get double figures this coming Monday 27th, 7 til 8pm, which will be a crying shame when the ground is frozen and the latter end of hurricane SHIVERYOURBOLLOCKSOFF is doing its worse. Could those who still owe gym money see Val this weekend please. Talking of weekend-1s at home v unbeaten Southport meet 1.30pm, 3pm k.o for any much needed supporters, 2s take unbeaten record to Littleborough, meet 1pm, and 3s have a tricky game at North Manchester also 1pm meet. Apres game is our second players social-Real Ales and Cider on, El Classico/European Rugby on the goggle box (how could I forget X Factor Live shows-get in- Chloe Jasmine). Plus, to our many potential musicians hiding their fire under a Bushel (we know Baz can tinkle the ivories😉), bring down your instrument of choice and we can get a bit of an impromptu jamming session on the go (there is safe storage if you need to leave your instrument at the club that evening) All welcome. The Duvets lunch is selling well, please see Mark Hilton or myself for tickets-£20 per person or £150 for a table of 8. Please note we have brought the timings forward slightly 12 for 12.30pm on 8th November,to pack in all the treats Rick/Chris and Mr Cuttle have for you. Finally MOVEMBER, Ken will be setting up a Just Giving page and linking it to the website and Facebook pages. Start your Tash 1/11/14 and work towards the Shave Off Sat 29th Nov. Appropriate headwear to be worn on the 29th to off set your Tash eg.a thin greasy French number-a beret, a luxuriant big curly English rascal-a deerstalker etc. Photographer will be present to put together before and after gallery, and we are hoping for some celeb shavers-watch this space. Remember this is to help find cures for Male Testicular and Bowel Cancer-so lets get everyone involved. Keep working on paying memberships gents, see captains or managers we have a vastly improved situation, but while a lot of fundraising efforts are going towards the Fit 4 15 project, we still need to keep the every day running of your club central to your thoughts. Regards and see you for a beer Saturday, Tim.

Just a reminder for everyone, interclub game tomorrow. This game is for playing members and so all of you should be looking to get involved. The game will be 4 x 20 minute quarters with mixed ability teams and unlimited interchanges. Players need to be at the club for 1:30 with ko being at 2:30. There will be the usual after game refreshments and, for those making an evening of it, there is a planned "Beer Walk" around the real ale boozers of Manchester city centre with the 6:17pm train from Stalybridge being the aim. Lets get everyone down to the club tomorrow. See you all there!

Hi everybody, a reminder for a few things this week: Wednesday 7 til 8 at Astley Sports Village, strength and conditioning training with Mark Storey. It is important we improve numbers on this as if we don't we will lose this great session that is showing results for those that have been going, but also we lose an indoor training facility that may prove invaluable during the winter months. Thursday 7 til 9 Blocksages, Wrestling for rugby session and spacial awareness with guest coach, lets please keep the great turnout up we've had on Thursdays. Saturday is the inter-club trial game. 1.30pm meet and a 3pm ko. This is for every playing member in the club and is a chance for everyone to get used to game conditions prior to competitive games starting at tge end of the month. Teams will be split evenly. As usual beers and BBQ straight afterwards and there is a planned beer walk around Manchester's lesser known real ale hostelries for those that fancy making a night of it. Hopefully see you all there!

Our £10KBid Fund now stands at £4000 – we really need to up our fundraising game over the next 6 weeks if we are going to achieve our goal – we have an important meeting with the RFU in August and they will want to see (amongst other things) whether we will be able to match their funding. Starting from the 10th November we are having a personal trainer down at the club on a Tuesday 7-8. The programme will run for 6-8 weeks depending on intrest. He comes highly recommended and has done previous stints at Leeds Rhinos & Everton and is currently working with Bolton Wanderers. Each session will cost£40 and so we really need everyone to step up and give it a go to make it cost effective and sustainable. If you are intrested let Robbie Wilcox know (07583593694)so he can work out numbers.

Training tonight is 7pm until 8:45pm and is open to all playing members. Please will as many of you as possible attend. As a club, we have the potential to acheive great things on the pitch but this will only happen if we have the right number and right people turning up to train with the whole squad. The bar is open afterwards and so gives you the chance to catch up with your mates and get in a cheeky pint. Please make the effort to get down.

Hi all. The squad lists for all 3 teams playing this weekend have just been put up on here. We are very tight on playing numbers this weekend and so any last minute cry offs will have a massive negative impact on the whole playing club in managing gaps, so please ensure (other than for real emergencies) that you don't let your team (and club) mates down. Thanks.
