FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards Durham parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km event for runners of all standards, which takes place every Saturday at 9am at Graham Sports Centre, Maiden Castle, ending along the promenade overlooking the river. It is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan, or to just as a gentle re-introduction for you - and your family - to exercise and physical activity.
Implemented by a small but dedicated group of enthusiastic volunteers from a variety of running backgrounds, Durham parkrun has been supported by local employer Allied Bakeries and Durham University, allowing us to deliver a high quality, safe, free weekly run which encourages participation, volunteering and above all, physical activity regardless of age or background, bringing our local community together on a regular basis to enjoy a shared community space. The accessibility of parkrun is key - whether you are wanting to aim for a PB every week or simply complete the 5km course, all our runners come along safe in the knowledge they will be supported, encouraged and inspired to reach whatever goals they set. We want to encourage people to walk jog or run together irrespective of ability, having open access to this opportunity at no cost and encourage a diverse range of people, of all ages to get involved.
