Description

I have studied the piano for over 15 years, five of those teaching people of all ages and abilities, from absolute beginners to professional pianists wishing to hone their technique. BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS I had an excellent musical eduction, studying piano with June Melville under whom I completed both my Grade Eight in Piano and went on to completed a Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in Performance. I also studied at the University of Manchester during which time I completed my ABRSM in Music Direction. As a performer, I have played as a soloist and accompanist, including several concerts at the University of Durham Music School, several music festivals both in the UK and Europe. My specialist areas in performance are Bach as well as some of the Romantic composers. TEACHING My pupils have a 100 per cent pass rate in ABRSM exams, most with Merit or Distinction. I am passionate about teaching and fit my style to my pupil’s needs. I find that the best way to encourage people to learn the piano is to make it fun and enjoyable, while still giving pupils a good grounding in classical keyboard technique. I use a wide range of learning materials and styles giving the pupil a good grounding in classical and modern music which is tailored to them. Older and adult beginners are a speciality, and I am never pushy about pupils taking exams. My studio is in Durham City, in the Crossgate Moor area, with easy access by bus or walking from the town centre. My lessons are given on a beautiful professional standard Rud. Ibach Sohn grand piano which is fully serviced and tuned twice a year. I also have a small harpsichord for those interested in learning that instrument or trying it for interpretation purposes. The first lesson is always FREE with no obligation to continue if you find that my teaching is not right for you. Parents or a friend are welcome to sit in on lessons if they wish. I encourage potential pupils or their parents to take up references from my currant pupils and their parents. I have an enhanced disclosure CRB check and have completed the NSPCC Keeping Children Safe in Music. I am a member of the Musician’s Union and fully insured to teach.
