The East London School of Furniture Making takes students at all levels. Courses are taught by furniture makers Emma Leslie and Rhiannon Wilkey.
Welcome to the East London School of Furniture Making run by Emma Leslie and Rhiannon Wilkey. We run both furniture and woodworking courses starting from absolute beginner level. We are both trained cabinet and furniture makers who specialise in designing and making bespoke work to commission. Our courses are designed for beginners and intermediate level makers and are project based. The groups are limited to 5 students which allows for plenty of one on one tuition. We run the courses from our workshop which allows students access to our work in progress, and the potential to observe and discuss different making processes. Each student will be provided with an apron and the necessary hand tools for the duration of the course. The first couple of weeks will be dedicated to practice joints, which will involve marking out, sawing and pairing with chisels. We will then move on to the set project where you will make the final piece, plane and finish it. During the course we will discuss timber types, how to select and identify qualities and defects. You will leave the course with the basic skills and understanding necessary to continue onto a follow up course with us, or to pursue as an interest at home. Please see our courses list for dates and costs. We also provide gift vouchers by post or email. Please email school@studiolw.co.uk for details.
