East Side Oakland .

Description

East Oakland is the southeastern portion of Oakland, California, and takes up the largest portion of the city's land area. It stretches between Lake Merritt in the northwest and San Leandro in the southeast. Many areas of East Oakland have been plagued by high crime in the postwar period and are known for violence and drug activity. These 4 sets are also part of East Oakland's notoriously violent heart. Intersected by the major arteries of 73rd/Hegenberger, Macarthur, San Leandro St., and International, this, as well as the 60's, is in the heart of Oakland's drug trade. Although heavily patrolled by the Oakland Police, little has been done to stop the violence in these neighborhoods. Eastmont mall can be found here. 73rd and 98th are the main routes to the Oakland airport and Oakland's stadium. In the lower portions of all of these neighborhoods are industrial industries, but the majority of land in this area is residential. The neighborhoods are gaining a more family-safe feel and the trees along the creek are lovely. Oakland remains a town of interest and charisma. However, it should be noted that in recent years Oakland suffered a 50% raise in homicides to the highest since 1992. Although identified by the Oakland Police as "the killing zone", these areas are not as dangerous as would otherwise be thought. Most of the violence is directed to and from drug dealers, and not at normal residents. Many areas have become much less dangerous in recent years and now certainly does have some sort of a family feel. Deep East Oakland seems to be the most dangerous part of Oakland, where 90% of the murders every year occur. The area between 70th and 109th Avenues and near the airport became notorious, starting in the 1980s, as one of the most violent and drug/gang dominated regions in the state, after much of the area experienced a drastic socioeconomic decline following the 1970s; prior to this, most of East Oakland was middle-class and almost suburban in nature. Oakland is a large, urban center that is reputed to have a high level of criminal activity, but you must be clear that like in any American city, there are predictable places where life is more, or less, dangerous meaning that some parts aresomewhat dangerous, while others are far more dangerous.
