El Adobe Cafe Mexican Restaurant opened on February 24th 2000 in a building that used to be a very popular old bakery called Polly Ann's on Arroyo St. just off So. Virginia behind what is now the Antique Mall (that building used to be...). El Adobe owner-chef Raul Berumen was born in Jalisco, Mexico and although his mother didn't allow men in the kitchen he was always curious about cooking and observed what she was doing to help develope his early culinary skills. Raul moved to southern California in 1976 and worked as a chef in a number of high-end restaurants and hotels. A few years later he moved to Reno and worked as a chef at 2 Guys from Italy, an Italian reataurant at the corner of So. Virginia & Moana Ln (now the home of La Vecchia), Bally's Steak House, Famous Murphy's and spent 12 years at Bertha Miranda's. Raul is as good with hand tools as he is with kitchen tools having done nearly all the remodel and construction work himself, including the floors, the booths and whole bar area. Raul's son Javier has been working with his dad since high school and now helps manage the restaurant. El Adobe has received numerous awards and accolades and would like to Thank You for your continued support and patronage.
