Buying a new house vs. an older one? It is a good question. An older house may have great lay out, be in the area of your choice and may have been fully renovated. Older streets can be lined with mature trees and have well established parks and community centres. Modern features can be added to an older house making it look and feel like new. BUT remember certain things can not be changed. For instance the height of the ceilings will remain 8 feet, where as newer houses will have 9 feet (at least on the first floor). Also, beware of problems that may creep up which can not be identified in an inspection. For instance, problems with pipes and plumbing or rotting inside the walls. You should be prepared for certain surprises when buying a house that is over 15-20 years.
