The mission of Emmanuel Christian School is to assist the Christian family by providing students with Godly, loving training that inspires them to exemplify Christ, make Biblically-based decisions, and attain academic excellence.
Day #2 Update - Maddie Martin We spent the morning working with four year-olds in the preschool at Freedom Christian School, being paired up with one or two kids, going around to fourteen different learning centers, playing with sand or doing a craft. I met and promptly fell in love with a little girl named Daniela from the batey Cabeza de Torro (Head of the Bull). Bateyes are sugar cane villages where the workers and their families live. Daniela hardly spoke any English so there was a bit of a language barrier due to her accent but she was the sweetest thing and very intelligent. After working in the school, we had lunch and went to the town of Ramon Santana where we walked through three different areas of the town and collected about sixty children to come listen to the VBS message, play games, and do crafts with us. The kids loved to play with the girls’ hair, draw with chalk and play soccer. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip thus far because I got to use my Spanish in a real-life situation. Today was eye-opening, to say the least. To see where these people come from compared to what I have made me feel a mix of guilt and gratitude. I’m excited to get up tomorrow and do it all over again. -Maddie Martin
Emmanuel Christian School - Jodi Quinlivan Dominican Republic Mission Trip Monday, June 22 Today we traveled to Freedom Christian School to help teach the 4 year-olds and to bond with the children of the Dominican Republic. After lunch, we headed to the town of Ramon Santana to gather kids to hear the VBS lesson. The entire day was a huge eye-opening experience to see how much I take for granted simple things like using scissors and being able to flush toilet paper. The kids of the Dominican have encouraged me so much as well as the Bible lessons we hear each night from Jason Hilgeman, the President of Freedom International Ministries. I am very excited to see how the kids will continue to inspire me throughout the rest of the week and make a huge impact in my life after this trip.
