General Info

The Kansas City Branch has hosted the Annual Shakespeare Competition for over three decades and has produced two First Place National Winners and a Second Place National Winner. We have funded the British Universities Summer School Fellowship program offered to secondary school teachers for summer study in the United Kingdom at The Globe Theatre, Oxford University and Edinburgh University. We host the Fulbright-Robertson Visiting Professor of British History from Westminster College, Fulton, MO. This annual lecture series brings international speakers with a wide range of topics of interest to the English-speaking community. Members enjoy a variety of cultural and social events throughout the year including an annual celebration of the birthday of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II and we are proud to support the fine educational programs and entertainment of the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival in Kansas City. We also offer fun activities such as "ESU Goes to the Movies." Occasionally we find specialty films that tie-in with ESU themes and arrange a group movie event. Past memorable movies seen by ESU Kansas City members include The King's Speech, Anonymous, The Queen, The Iron Lady, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and Much Ado About Nothing.
