Description

The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate plays a critical role in delivering the ACT Government’s commitment to a sustainable future. We are committed to tackling climate change by providing leadership to stimulate growth of the green economy and encouraging innovation and investment for renewable electricity. We protect and conserve the environment and water resources, develop and oversee a range of nation-leading environmental policies and programs, conduct important ecological research and are responsible for natural resource and land management. The ACT Parks and Conservation Service manages the territory’s national parks, commercial softwood forests and rural lands. In addition, we are responsible for protecting our natural and built heritage. We are also responsible for city planning, administering the Territory Plan and for surveying, spatial planning, planning approvals and sustainable urban design.
