The program is to support those North Carolina Hometown Heroes who work to make North Carolina communities safe. North Carolina's Automobile Dealers Association (NCADA), along with North Carolina's new car, truck and RV dealers, recognized and honored more than 30 North Carolina First Responders at their annual meeting in December of 2016. The meeting featured former North Carolina Governor, Pat McCrory, who presented awards to First Responders individually. Each of these Hometown Heroes were nominated by North Carolina franchise dealers. In addition to recognizing the Hometown Heroes with a plaque acknowledging their service, NCADA also provided each First Responder with a small stipend. Hometown Heroes that were recognized included police officers and firefighters from across the state, as well as EMTs, county sheriffs, and security personnel at a community college. "The freedom and liberty that we have today is safeguarded by the actions of local Hometown Heroes that support our communities and cities. "It is our honor, as franchised car, truck and RV dealers, to recognize their commitment, dedication and courage." - NCADA Past Chairman Mike Alford from Jacksonville, NC. After the success of the program in 2016 we are proud to recognize these Hometown Heroes year round at events all over the state. Other programs organized and supported by North Carolina dealers over the past 15 years include the North Carolina Teacher of the Year program, the Triangle Flight of Honor for WWII veterans, the Drive for Troops program and the Support Our Troops program. Each of these campaigns were successful due to the collective efforts and financial support of all North Carolina's franchise car and truck dealers.
