General Info

History 1950: The medical faculty originates in the Foundation for Higher Clinical Training, which was set up in 1950 to train medical graduates from all over the country to become physicians. The task of this foundation was to train medical graduates from all over the country to become physicians. 1966: The foundation merged with the Medical Faculty Rotterdam, which was established in 1966. The founder of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FGG) was Prof. Dr. Andries Querido. 1973: On February 1, the merger with the faculties of Woudestein (the former Netherlands School of Economics) prompted the foundation of the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam, or EUR). The Medical Faculty provides physician training, postgraduate studies, scientific research studies, and contributes to the training of medical specialists. 1982: In September, the EUR received the first students for General Healthcare Studies (SAG). This master's degree program focuses on policy and management issues in the healthcare sector and organizationally falls under the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The name of this program was later changed to Health Policy & Management (HPM). 1998: On 7 October, the Dean of the medical faculty and the Boards of Governors of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and the AZR announced their intention to work collectively on the creation of the Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam. 2002: The new organization, Erasmus MC, was born on 1 June.
