In partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Kingston, Extra Awesome provides academic support & physical activity for youth with exceptionalities.
Working alongside the Down Syndrome Association of Kingston, Extra Awesome provides academic support and physical activity for Kingston youth with disabilities and their siblings. The academic component offers one-on-one tutoring, reading and verbal skill support and overall academic assistance. The athletic component of the program offers both sport instruction, as well as fine and gross motor skill activities, depending on the individual capabilities of the children. Jenn Evans, a fourth year Kinesiology student at Queen's University, launched Extra Awesome in 2015. Our volunteers are all students studying at the School of Kinesiology and Heath Studies at Queen's University. We run our program once a week at Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School on Mondays from 4:30-6:00 pm. Additionally, we are always coordinating and running events with the Down Syndrome Association of Kingston. If you have an questions or concerns you can message or email us (extraawesomekingston@yahoo.com). Facilitating the development of academic abilities, fine & gross motor skills, communication & social competency, and overall confidence and independence through an inclusive programming structure.
