The goal at Family House is to help families in crisis to find permanent housing, to regain control over their lives, and reclaim their independence. Help from Family House is a hand up not a hand out. Established in 1985, Family House with the legal name: Toledo Community Service Center, began to provide emergency shelter to people in the local Toledo community. Family House recognized the need for families to stay together, during a homelessness crisis. Family House changed their mission and shelters families in crisis together, rather than separating the family. It is through this compassion during crisis and with respect and honoring for the family unit, Family House is now the largest family homeless shelter in northwest Ohio and second largest family homeless shelter in the state, sheltering families 365 days per year, serving more than 40,000 meals to over 850 homeless individuals (children being 500 of those served) from all over Ohio.
Family House is a non profit, family homeless shelter that provides a safe, clean and warm place to stay for up to 90 days, 3 FDA approved meals per day and snacks, as well as seasonal clothing and basic hygiene necessities, as needed. After their stay with Family House, families receive 2 full boxes of food to stock their kitchens with as well as other donated household items to help furnish their homes, as they are available. Family House also provides: Individual case management services with weekly follow up on goal attainment After-care/Permanent housing support Head Start, preschool and toddler education Family Budgeting and Nutrition classes
