Celebrating 38 years in 2018, FIN Atlantic International Film Festival began as a tiny, grassroots operation in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1981, relocating to Halifax the following year. Just three decades later, FIN Atlantic International Film Festival has blossomed into one of Canada’s premier film festivals. Whether for industry folk, unabashed film lovers or curious onlookers, the Festival offers a slew of opportunities to engage the global film experience. Today, FIN is now a year-round celebration of film, which includes: FIN Atlantic International Film Festival - 150+ films from Atlantic Canada and around the world, Industry Events, Script Development Program, Retrospective Parties & Receptions FIN Partners (formerly Strategic Partners) - Co-production market, 200 top industry players, 1-2-1 meetings, keynotes, panels, Trans Atlantic Partners - TAP (international co-production mentoring program), Cannes Producers Network Reception FIN Kids (formerly ViewFinders: Atlantic Film Festival for Youth) - Curriculum based film screenings & workshop events, Hands-on workshops and discussions with top industry professionals, ViewFinders: Youth Film Competition FIN Outdoor (formerly the Outdoor Film Experience) - Public screenings on throughout Halifax, NS - July through August, Variety of community screenings throughout the year.

One of Canada's premier film festivals, FIN: Atlantic International Film Festival is an eight-day celebration of film, media and music from around the world. It’s a festival that turns Halifax, NS – a charming and historic coastal city – into an international mecca for the arts, abuzz with filmmakers, industry types and film lovers. ViewFinders presents the best in regional, national and international films for youth, tackling issues from multiculturalism and community to sustainability and creativity. The program’s activities introduce the wonderful world of filmmaking through hands-on media workshops, and through film competitions, ViewFinders provides a platform for young filmmakers - a proven launching pad for the next generation of talent. Strategic Partners, is one of the world’s pre-eminent international co-production markets. Focusing on feature film, TV and digital fiction, Strategic Partners includes projects looking for financing as well as those still at an early stage – looking for the right partner. The Outdoor Film Experience is that little bit of the Film Festival that no one can resist. It’s outdoors. It’s movies. It’s an unforgettable Experience! For the past 15 years, on Friday nights from the end of July to August, FIN has delivered an entertaining outdoor film experience throughout Halifax – a larger-than-life inflatable screen showing classic movies under the open sky. FIN's mission is to enrich cultural and economic life in Atlantic Canada by championing the vision and the voice of the global cinema experience.
