Vitreo-Retinal Diseases and Surgery — Florida Retina Institute is a vitreo-retinal specific ophthalmologic practice headquartered in Florida. It was incorporated in 1979 by its founder James A. Staman, M.D. In 1991, William J. Dunn, M.D., FACS, CHE and Raul J. Moreno, M.D. joined the practice. Thomas A. Barnard, M.D. came on board in July, 1998, Elias C. Mavrofrides, M.D. in August, 2004, Matthew A. Cunningham, M.D. and Jonathan A. Staman, M.D. joined in August 2013, S.K. Steven Houston III, M.D. and Benjamin Thomas, M.D. joined in September 2016. All nine Florida Retina Institute physicians are fellowship trained and board certified. They have participated in national studies and continually stay abreast of all new treatments and studies in order to maintain their expertise in the treatment of all retina/vitreous diseases such as silicone oil for retinal detachment, intravitreal injections of avastin/lucentis and photodynamic therapy for age related macular degeneration and retinal vascular occlusions, laser surgery for diabetic retinopathy and many other conditions related to eye health care. Florida Retina Institute treats its patients from eighteen offices in Florida and Georgia. In Florida, there are four full-time, fully staffed offices located in Jacksonville - Oak Street, Jacksonville - Perimeter Park, Daytona Beach and Lake Mary. Other Florida offices include Clermont, Fernandina Beach, Lake City, St. Augustine, Palatka, Titusville, Orange City, Palm Coast, Kissimmee, Orlando, Mount Dora and Lady Lake. Southeast Georgia patients are provided for in our Brunswick and Waycross offices.
