The terms "chiropodist" and "podiatrist" both mean "an expert qualified to diagnose and treat foot disorders". These professional titles are now protected by law, and can only be use if they are registered with The Health Professions Council (HPC). See hpcuk.org for more information. Do I need to see a podiatrist? Often the problems in your feet and ankles go away with time, rest, ice, anti-inflammatories and footwear changes. Sometimes those problems won't go away and that's when you should consider a podiatrist's help and expertise. Main reasons to visit a podiatrist A wound or sore that does not heal Pain that increases with activity Numbness, burning and tingling Arch's on feet flatten A lump or bump that grows or hurts Pain and swelling in the foot or ankle Severe pain lasting more than 24 hours Biomechanics What is Biomechanics? "Foot Biomechanics" is the study of the foot movements during walking, running and sport, and the affects of these movements on the body. Foot problems can occur because of abnormal Biomechanical function of the feet during walking. How can Biomechanics help? Once we have assessed your feet there are a number of different ways that we can help to alleviate symptoms.
