Description

Since July 2011, the Fort Wayne Base Community Council has been led by an all-volunteer Board of Directors and committee members focused on collaboration between the military and civilian communities of Northeast Indiana and direct support to Northeast Indiana military service-members and their families. As of November 2014, the FWBCC has 176 paid members. We continue to grow our membership and the engagement of our great members has allowed us to make a significant impact in Indiana and especially our region. Key activities have included the establishment of quarterly member and guest lunch programs featuring national-level speakers in the areas of national security, matters of state, military deployment, etc. Our recent keynote speakers have been Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt Sammy Lee Davis (ret), author LTC Steve Russell (ret), Boston Marathon handcycling two time champion Staff Sgt Tom Davis and Vice Chair of the National Guard Bureau Lt Gen Lengyel. Individuals interested in supporting our military and civilian communities are welcome to register to attend a luncheon. Our events also provide a great opportunity to to network with local military and corporate leaders, legislators, non-profit organizations and men and women in uniform! In addition, the FWBCC is assisting the development and/or growth of Baer Field Heritage Park, STARBASE Indiana, Family Readiness Groups, the Fort Wayne Air Show, multiple Veterans Outreach programs, support for deployed service-members, Job Training and transition etc., In 2012 we established a 501c3 Military Support Fund to provide direct and immediate financial support to area service-members and their families in times of emergencies. The MILITARY SUPPORT FUND is managed by a FWBCC Military Support Fund Committee and by the Greater Fort Wayne Community Foundation. To date, we have awarded 106 grants and approximately $40,000 to local service-members and their families, providing immediate support for emergency needs such as utilities, daycare, transportation and housing. We are also conducting other activities as are appropriate and consistent with our charter. These include, but are not limited to, serving as a focal point for civilian involvement with our military community, service as a voice for the Northeast Indiana region’s support for its military personnel and installations. The Fort Wayne Base Community Council members and Board of Directors are very active year round providing various types of support in conjunction with other community organizations focused on jobs and education and essential needs for Active, Guard and Reserve service-members and their families, Veterans and retired military.
