In addition to the Riding Program at Fountain Valley School, which includes both English and Western riding for beginners all the way through advanced riders, the Equestrian Team allows for FVS students to pursue competitive riding and gain experience in the show ring. Many of our riders continue on after our program to ride in college, either in NCAA or IHSA programs. Our Equestrian team has 3 coaches: Ann Hanna, Ally Doyon, and Susan Winston. Both Ann Hanna and Ally Doyon are USHJA Certified Trainers, and Susan Winston is currently working on gaining her certification. In our lessons (5-6 days a week) we teach components of the forward-riding system and the tenets of George Morris. In addition to time in the saddle, our students are required to learn about the care of their horse, their equipment, and the facility in order to become all around horsemen. Each member of the team plays a crucial role in the barn, whether it be feeding, providing basic veterinary care, mucking stalls, sweeping the aisles, cleaning tack, grooming for shows, painting jumps: you name it, our riders do it.
