Police Float Built To Raise Support Posted: April 27, 2016 By CHRISTOPHER EARLEY The Winchester Star WINCHESTER — The local Fraternal Order of Police is asking the public to show its support Saturday, when representatives from numerous law enforcement agencies ride in the Grand Feature Parade of the 89th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival. Ole Fredericktown Lodge 12 President James Pearce said a float will bear photographs of two Virginia law enforcement personnel who recently died in the line of duty. Prince William County police officer Ashley Marie Guindon was killed Feb. 27, and Virginia State Police trooper Chad Phillip Dermyer was killed March 31. “The whole purpose of this segment of the parade is [to] show support of law enforcement,” Pearce said Tuesday, adding that he hopes people will show up wearing blue ribbons or anything else to express support. The law enforcement portion of the parade, Pearce said, will also mark the first time a Clarke County sheriff will ride in the event. Sheriff Tony Roper will be riding on a float with Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center Superintendent Jim Whitley and Miss FOP Vanessa Bexkens, Pearce, a retired Nassau County, N.Y., detective, said the event is particularly important and emotional for him. Over his career, he said he attended more than a dozen funerals for law enforcement officers. “It just leaves you with a sick feeling,” Pearce said. — Contact Christopher Earley at cearley@winchesterstar.com

A MESSAGE FOR A BROTHER IN NEED! I am Garry Dixon, President of the Hopewell Prince George Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 17 in Virginia. On February 13, 2016, one of our members family lost their house to a fire. The fire was in Colonial Heights where his children lived with their mother in a rented house. They had no renters insurance. Needless to say they lost everything. We are raising money for the family to answer their immediate needs. We will use the money to purchase clothes, personal items and other items needed to keep them going till they can get back on their feet. HPGFOP 17 is a close nit lodge who like to take care of it's own. We also help other law enforcement officers in the community when needed. We want to help our fellow brother as much as we can to make this hard time and transition as easy as possible, especially for the children. The HPGFOP17 would like to thank everyone in advance for their contributions.
