Master of Music in Media Writing and Production (Commercial Music): The Master of Music degree program in Media Writing & Production within the Theory & Composition department provides the mature student with the special technical and practical skills required in today’s recording industry—an industry based on sophisticated recording equipment, interdisciplinary complexities of multimedia projects, economic considerations of production, ever-growing consumer needs, and broadening musical styles that continue to place added demands on the music composer/arranger/producer. The Media Writing & Production program’s design is sufficiently flexible to adjust to the rapid changes so common in this fast-paced industry. The students also find that this flexibility provides for a more tailored program, encouraging them to develop their own philosophy of music production and allowing for specific areas in which to specialize. Career-oriented arranging and production projects utilizing video and audio equipment as well as symphonic and other live instrumental ensembles are incorporated throughout the curriculum to furnish the student with real-world practical experience in a variety of professional situations. Many of our active and successful award-winning alumni will attest to the rewarding experiences and tangible benefits this unique two year course of study provides. Program Director: Chris Boardman: c.boardman@miami.edu Admission Requirements: -Have earned a Bachelors degree from an accredited institution. -Provide a portfolio containing between 5 and 8 diverse original works (scores and/or recordings, based on the nature of the works) demonstrating evidence of advanced compositional ability. -Earn a minimum score of 1000 on the GRE Exam. -Provide three letters of recommendation. -Submit your application by the published deadline date.
