Why won't doctors suggest patients get into hospice earlier when families can really get a benefit from the services. Too many doctors won't suggest hospice until a week or less before the patient dies. A real waste of available services.
A couple of times this week I've heard stories from folks about how a nursing home or hospital pressured then to have the body of a loved one picked up quickly, even when another family member was just a few hours from arriving. Don't be rushed. Take a deep breath and explain that his daughter or her sister is on her way and needs a few minutes with the dead person to say farewell. This is acceptable. Nothing has to be rushed. Take the time you need...being reasonable, and a couple of hours is not being unreasonable.
